SJ Litt Cp - Prototype Questions

Inlägg av rich_eason »

Apologies for asking in English, unfortunately I do not speak Swedish.

I am in the process of scratch building a pair of VGJ Litt CD/BC (SJ Litt Cp) coaches in 1/35 scale. I have a couple of questions which I would hope some of the forum members may be able to help me:

- I am struggling to find any prototype images of the coaches in service during the SJ years. Would anyone be able to point me to any images on the internet that may help me continue with the build? My searches have drawn a blank!

- Did the post box (Kungl Post) remain fitted when in service with SJ?

Many thanks...I may have more questions to follow!

Dear Richard!

My knowledge of VGJ coaches is not very comprehensive. I am not sure which coach you are writing about, but might it be VGJ CD 1034? If so, I have found a few things on the Internet when I searched for “VGJ 1034”.

The coach is preserved at Skara - Lundsbrunns Railway (http://www.sklj.se) were there also is a link to information about the coach: http://www.sklj.se/avd/maskin/fordon/pa ... gj1034.htm
According to this, the coach was:
Built 1915 by Kockums (The same company nowadays builds submarines!)
Rebuilt to litt Cp 1926 by VGJ
Taken over by SJ 1948
Rebuilt to litt CFp 1952 (3:rd class with a guards compartment) at Kalmar verkstad
Transferred to the PWD in 1955 or 1956
Taken over by Skara – Lundsbrunn Jvg 1968
Rebuilt to Cp after a fire 1991

There is a nice photo of the coach when it was delivered at Samlingsportalen:

http://www.samlingsportalen.se/all/cgip ... 86&Imgnr=1

and its sister coach 1035 litt C

http://www.samlingsportalen.se/all/cgip ... 87&Imgnr=1

and the latter converted to a hospital coach during the World War II (as part of a Hospital train)

As the coach has survived, there must be some photos of it in its SJ days.

On your second question the answer has to be no, unfortunately.

All the best

Wow this is a fantastic start thank you. :D

Funnily enough I have searched the same terms you have used amongst many different search engines and drew a blank. I am sure that the results that you see are without doubt different to what I see here in the UK!

Anyway, the links to the images and information are fantastic and thank you. They provide good detail of under frame and roof detail which were to be my follow up questions...no need to ask now! :)

Once I have progressed further with the build I will post up some images...

Thanks again
